History of the heroic ship

The vessel was originally built as HMS P41 for the Royal Navy, but before its completion it was transferred to Norwegian service and renamed Uredd, which means "Fearless" in Norwegian. The ship was built at the Vickers-Armstrong shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom, and commissioned on December 12, 1941, under the command of Lieutenant R.Q. Røren.

The ship's design emphasized compactness and maneuverability, qualities particularly important during coastal operations in the North Sea and the Mediterranean.

The ship primarily served on patrols off the coast of German-occupied Norway, conducting seven successful combat missions and sinking several German ships. In February 1943, it participated in Operation Seagull, the aim of which was to land Norwegian commandos in Bodø and support resistance operations. Unfortunately, on February 10, 1943, Uredd was sunk in a German minefield. The entire 34-person crew perished, along with six commandos from the Linge Company. The wreck was not discovered until 1985, and the Uredd became a symbol of remembrance and heroism in the Norwegian Navy.
