Build a winter clash between two armored worlds: the heavy KV-2 and the light Sd.Kfz. 250/1, in this collectible limited edition from COBI!
Get a closer look at the winter landscape of the Eastern Front and construct two vehicles designed for very different roles. The Soviet KV-2 impresses with its tall turret and powerful armament, while the German Sd.Kfz. 250/1 represents the light half-track transporters used by infantry and reconnaissance units.
This COBI set brings both models together in 1:28 scale. The tank-bearing the side number 528-and the machine-gun-equipped transporter both feature a winter camouflage scheme, complete with realistic wear and tear on the white paint. Beneath the white, the original base colors are visible: green on the KV-2 and gray on the Sd.Kfz. 250/1.
These fine details allow you to recreate a scene inspired by winter combat operations on the Eastern Front.

An exclusive limited edition from COBI
This set centers on a pair of vehicles: the massive KV-2 and the significantly smaller Sd.Kfz. 250/1. Together, they form a composition that allows for a direct comparison of their silhouettes, construction and intended roles.
For the first time in COBI history, the Sd.Kfz. 250/1 appears in a winter paint scheme. It is accompanied by a winter-camouflaged KV-2, which stands out from the standard, all-green version of the model.
The Limited Edition includes four figures, a certificate of authenticity and a laser-engraved plaque. Features such as opening hatches, a removable tank turret, detailed interiors and an extractable engine for the KV-2 allow the models to be displayed with their internal structural details exposed.
Discover this unique set, available exclusively through official COBI stores and only for a limited time, while supplies last. With its unique paint scheme and exclusive figures, this edition will never be re-released in the same configuration.
Two vehicles, two different roles
The KV-2 was developed as an evolution of the KV-1 heavy tank. Lessons learned during the Winter War highlighted the need for weaponry more effective against fortifications. The solution was to mount a 152mm M-10 howitzer within a large, rotating turret.

The 1940 variant was distinguished by its tall turret with vertical sides. However, this powerful armament and heavy armor came at the cost of significant weight and mechanical issues that complicated the vehicle's operation.
The Sd.Kfz. 250/1 served a different purpose. This light German armored personnel carrier featured a half-track drivetrain and an open-topped crew compartment. It was used to transport small infantry squads and was deployed within reconnaissance units.

Facts and details about the KV-2 (1940) & Sd.Kfz. 250/1 brick set
Details about the KV-2 (1940) brick model
The brick-built KV-2 captures the most iconic features of the heavy tank: its tall, angular turret, wide hull and tracked running gear. The winter camouflage is accented by the red side number "528."
The model features, among other things:
- functional tracks
- a rotating and detachable turret
- a gun barrel that can be raised and lowered
- openable hatches and service panels
- a detailed interior
- access to the engine compartment
- a removable engine model
- detailed machine guns
- a winter camouflage scheme with patches of the original green base color visible

The large scale allows for a close look at both the vehicle's exterior and its interior. The tank can be displayed with all hatches closed or specific components can be opened to showcase its internal structure.
Take a look inside the KV-2
Removing the turret reveals the detailed components of the fighting compartment. Openable hatches and panels allow for the display of details that would otherwise remain hidden when the model is closed.
The engine compartment contains a brick-built model of the power unit which can be removed from the tank and displayed separately.

The original KV-2 was powered by a V-2K diesel engine. The inclusion of a removable engine allows for the creation of scenes depicting vehicle inspections or maintenance work during a halt.
Armament of the heavy tank
The primary armament of the KV-2 is a detailed 152 mm howitzer. The movable barrel and rotating turret allow for various positioning options.
The model features characteristic machine gun positions, including those visible on the hull and the rear of the turret.
Information about the brick-built Sd.Kfz. 250/1 model
The second vehicle in the set is a light, half-tracked armored personnel carrier. The model combines front wheels with a rear track system and features an open-topped crew compartment.

The design includes:
- functional tracks and rotating wheels
- an open crew compartment with a detailed interior
- opening engine compartment hatches
- replicated engine bay equipment
- machine guns mounted near the crew compartment
- a winter camouflage scheme with patches of the original grey base coat visible
The open design allows for a view of the vehicle's interior without needing to remove any top sections. Machine guns and equipment round out the model, while the included figures can be used to stage a scene such as a halt or a patrol.
Four figures
The set includes four figures representing both sides of the front line. Their uniforms and gear allow for the creation of scenes depicting reconnaissance, a crew at rest or the provision of medical aid.
A Red Army medic - dressed in a classic Soviet women’s uniform, complete with a skirt and an ushanka (fur hat) featuring a red star—stays close to the KV-2 crew, ready to reach the wounded as soon as the shelling subsides.
Soviet tank commander – dressed in a black tanker’s coverall and a tank helmet, with goggles over his eyes, he looks like an experienced officer preparing his crew for the next engagement. Holding binoculars and a pistol, he carefully observes the terrain in front of the heavy KV-2 tank.
German armored reconnaissance officer – wearing a black tanker’s jacket and a green officer’s cap, he appears to be the type of soldier who thoroughly assesses the situation before making any move. His goggles can be worn over his eyes or hung around his neck, and an MP40 submachine gun is kept close at hand. Positioned next to an Sd.Kfz. 250/1, he seems to be scouting a safe route for the half-track.
German soldier in winter camouflage – clad in a white camouflage suit and a white Stahlhelm (steel helmet), he blends into the wintry landscape. A balaclava worn under his helmet, along with gloves, highlights his readiness for service in freezing conditions. He appears to be providing security for a patrol’s halt, keeping a sharp eye on the surroundings while the reconnaissance officer determines the next leg of the route for the Sd.Kfz. 250/1.

Laser-engraved collector’s plaque
The Limited Edition includes a plaque featuring a laser-engraved set designation. When placed alongside both models, it creates a cohesive display for the KV-2 and the Sd.Kfz. 250/1.
Certificate of authenticity
A certificate of authenticity for the Limited Edition is included. Together with the display plaque, it forms a collectible presentation set.

Collector’s Corner
Two 1:28 scale models
The shared scale allows for a direct comparison of the sizes and proportions of both vehicles. The tall turret of the KV-2 clearly towers over the low, open-topped silhouette of the half-track.
The set can be displayed:
- as a duel between the two vehicles in winter camouflage
- with hatches and service covers opened
- with the KV-2’s turret removed to reveal the interior
- with the tank’s engine removed and placed next to the model
- alongside other 1:28 scale COBI vehicles
A detail for collectors
White coating over green and gray base colors
Winter camouflage did not mean a complete change of the vehicle's original base color scheme. A layer of white paint was applied over the existing finish, and as it wore away, the underlying color would be revealed.

In this COBI set, this effect has been recreated on both models. The green sections on the KV-2 and the gray surfaces on the Sd.Kfz. 250/1 are an intentional part of the winter edition’s design.
For collectors, this is a key feature of this release: the winter-themed KV-2 looks distinct from the standard green version, and this marks the first time the Sd.Kfz. 250/1 has appeared in this color scheme within the COBI collection.
