The BMP-1 is a Soviet infantry fighting vehicle introduced into service in 1966. Designed as the first mass-produced vehicle of its type, it combined mobility, amphibious capabilities and stronger armament than previous transporters.

Unlike the standard BTR-50P at the time, the BMP-1 was equipped not only with a machine gun, but also with a cannon and a launcher for anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM).

The BMP-1 became a widely exported vehicle and for decades formed the backbone of many mechanized formations. In addition to the USSR, licenses for its production were purchased by Czechoslovakia and Romania. Vehicles of this type were also used by, among others, the Polish, Iraqi, Greek armies and the National People's Army of the GDR.

The vehicle proved itself in numerous conflicts, from the wars in the Middle East, through the war in Afghanistan and the fighting in Chechnya, to contemporary battlefields, the BMP-1 has seen it all.
